Prompt: Remember
Age 5
I remember warm summer rains. Giant knee-deep puddles. Air so warm and thick like your favorite blanket. The feeling of clean.
You could fall asleep.
I remember the smell of my freshly-opened box of crayons. Finally, a 64-pack with the sharpener built in. So excited. Crisp edges, perfect wrappers.
And the first stroke of color.
I remember the big red door that opened into a room filled with color. Real desks that opened up to hold treasures. Class projects twisting above with every breeze.
A new adventure, full of possibility.

I hope this piece works. It’s funny that I already did this prompt, without knowing it was going to be a prompt, in my elegy on Day 26. I think that was the toughest thing I have ever had to write, but I’m glad I did it. (Wow. I just now realized that it was written and posted on Day 26 – which fits into the title “The Day After Christmas” so well. Amazing.) Please go read that one, too, even if you didn’t like this one. I would like opinions on it, since it was probably the most personal thing I have ever written, that I can remember. (haha.)
