Prompt: Homophonically-challenged
You What?
I stalled it
For a nice kitten
She seemed lost
In the middle of the road.
Since it stopped anyway,
I got out
To see if she was
Okay.
Two red lines
On my skin
Oozing.
Thanks I get for
Not running you
Over.
Bitch.

Line ganked from Poetry International site:
NATTBOKSBLAD by TOMAS TRANSTRÖMER
Language chosen for English-ish character set and personal non-knowledge. Poem chosen for being the first one I could find under that language at that site. Line chosen using a random number generator. No, I did not read the translation and I know absolutely no Swedish, so I have no idea what the poem or the specific line I ganked are (is?) about. That also means that I have no idea how the words are actually pronounced, so I may have taken some huge liberties with that interpretation. No offense meant, Swedes. I is ign’ant.

Prompt: Animals (+MM)
Long Necks
Unflapped
Blinking eyes, long-lashed, langorously staring
back at me–unseeing.
Brushing branches aside in quest of soft green
nibbles–chewing–ungulating–
Spotted. Not quite spots, more like softened
angular imprints–identifying mother to child.
Short-cropped bristles designed for native
savannah-ed vistas, not this temperate zoo location.
To see you in your real life
unwalled
unfettered
uncaptured nature.
So still
Even in running
Herds of legs and necks
Unbreakably free.
Do you remember
Free?

Um. Yah. Sorry if I’m not refined enough, but the 3 Marianne Moore pieces linked in the NaPoWriMo.net post just do not do it for me. I didn’t investigate her work further. Feel free to pass along any that you think I should look at.

a video from Compassion in World Farming‘s YouTube channel via Cynical-C:
In March 2012, we visited a farm in the UK to film cows being released from their indoor winter housing to their fresh pasture for spring and summer grazing.
As you will see from the video, the cows could not have been happier.

Hi Birdie Couple.
You keep coming back.
Every day.
10 days in a row.
I knock out your nest.
You build it again.
Sometimes it’s just a few sticks.
Sometimes it’s the whole nest.
I grab the broom.
It hits the ground.
At first I felt bad.
But now I’m annoyed.
Pea-sized brain and all,
It hasn’t sunk in.
I will not feel bad.
Anymore.
Even if there are eggs inside.
